Nordic Article Number

The Nordic Article Number is a 6-digit number, given to all human, veterinarian and herbal medicinal products. The number enables a simple verification of every single package throughout the distribution system.

A Nordic Article Number can either cover one Nordic country or all Nordic countries. A medicinal product can be marketed in the Nordic countries either with market specific article numbers in each country or with one common article number covering all Nordic countries.

The administrator of the Nordic Article Numbers is The Pharmaceutical Information Center i Finland. In addition each individual Nordic country has a national article number administrator.

In Denmark it is Dansk Lægemiddel Information (DLI) that undertakes the administration on behalf of the Danish Medicines Agency.

Online allocation of Nordic Article Numbers (Vnrs)

To facilitate the allocation of Nordic Article Numbers (Vnrs), it will now be possible to contact The Pharmaceutical Information Center in Finland directly. Use this link https://vnr.fi/ to get an access code and a password for future online access to your registration of article numbers.

Clients will experience a shorter turnaround and a better overview of article numbers in process. It is still possible to send your article number registration form to DLI, in which case we will forward it to Finland. This of course extends the time to process your submission slightly.
